![]() Summer Skin is also not for people under the age of 17, because there is loads of sexy time. Summer Skin is a sexy, funny, female driven OZ YA novel that reminds that things are not always what they seem and even people who seem all and mighty on the outside need a little loving. This has in no way influenced my thoughts and feelings about the book. ![]() I was sent an arc of Summer Skin my Kirsty Eagar from Allen and Unwin in exchange for an honest review. Just your typical love story.Ī searingly honest and achingly funny story about love and sex amid the hotbed of university colleges by the award-winning author of Raw Blue. It’s all Girl meets Boy, Girl steals from Boy, seduces Boy, ties Boy to a chair and burns Boy’s stuff. and smart enough to keep up with Jess.Ī neo-riot grrl with a penchant for fanning the flames meets a rugby-playing sexist pig – sworn enemies or two people who happen to find each other when they’re at their most vulnerable? The target: Blondie, a typical Knights stud, arrogant, cold. This year she and a hand-picked college girl gang are going to get even. ![]() Last year the jocks from Knights College tried to shame her best friend. ![]() ![]() ![]() Jazz always hung out with the popular girls, but now they don't know how to act around her and some even stare and call her a freak. Jazz a young girl of 16, is so badly scarred up from an automobile accident in which she also lost her mother in and blames herself for it. I feel I learned a lot from it about saving animals and to love animals even more. I found it exciting, enlightening and educational at the same time. This book is about the healing of a young girl and how she helps to save a leopard all while the leopard helps to save her. I recommend this book whole heartedly! I truly delightful read. I love Sibel Hodge books, although I have read most of them now I'd love all of them on audio (especially The Baby Trap). The author is obviously very knowledgable and passionate about anti-poaching and conservation. It really opened my eyes up to the poaching problem and I felt guilty for not really paying much attention before. ![]() The book has a very important message about anti-poaching and conservation. The narrators voice certainly adds to the story and fits the character perfectly. ![]() Through the characters description and problems you are immediately transported back to the mind of a teenager and sucked into Jaz's world. I am not a teenager myself and although this book is aimed at young adults I still enjoyed it very much. You immediately feel empathy for the main character who goes on a journey of self discovery and love. ![]() I thoroughly enjoyed this beautifully written book. Beautiful story of self discovery and conservation ![]() ![]() ![]() It also gives an insight into the pysche of people who grew up with socialism and had to adapt to a new world after 1991. Then there is the arc of history and seeing how the country and former empire has evolved into the Russia of today. Alexievich calls this a history of ‘domestic’ socialism. First, the human stories are interesting, sometimes told with dark humour, sometimes poignant and even tragic. Second-Hand Time is fascinating on many levels. Alexievich has collected first-hand accounts of ordinary people who tell their stories of life in Russia (and former Soviet countries) through the twentieth century up to 2012. Svetlana Alexievich won the 2015 Nobel Prize for Literature, so I expected her book to be weighty and important. I hadn’t realised how long it was (700 odd pages) and thought I might dip in and out of the stories, but was completely engrossed. I bought Second-Hand Time after a friend recommended it. ![]() |
